He told me he would hurt me badly if this photo found its way online.
I say, “bring it”.
“I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it. It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war, and I don’t think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger, and this is in our sphere of influence, so we can’t let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, and we have other doctrines that we have announced, and without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don’t need another 200-billion-dollar war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”

I like what Jim Wallis had to say regarding Pat Roberton’s statement. Here.
I received an e-mail this morning from someone “anonymous”.
It was a comment on my post yesterday about my idea of “what to do after Katrina”.
They were pretty offended.
They called me, “unbelievably offense(ive) and insensitive” and guessed “it would be easy for someone who is as priveleged as you to have a solution that says we should just demolish a city that is so rich in history…” they also said, “i can’t believe that you would call yourself a Christian and be that cold hearted while people are going through crisis.”
That one stung a bit more than the others, though I know that I can’t be ALL THINGS to ALL PEOPLE on my personal blog site! Of course my heart goes out to the thousands that are a part of this tragedy – and I’m sorry for not saying that earlier!
I think it’s a shame that my OPINION would be taken so offensively…
I don’t think anyone is going to take my opinion and “run with it”. I think they will try and rebuild New Orleans.
And for goodness sakes, I believe they NEED to and HAVE to find all survivors and non-survivors – and I’m now praying for “anonymous’ grandfather” who seems to be lost, currently.
It IS easy to have opinions – especially being THIS far away from the tragedy.
Please forgive me for not posting all of my thoughts on Katrina’s aftermath and only the, apparently, “offensive” ones.
By the way, New Orleans mayor is Mr. Ray Nagin, and apparently he’s calmed down a bit after talking one-on-one with President Bush.
After a great conversation on the way to Goshen tonight with Jess, we have figured out exactly what needs to happen to New Orleans and any surrounding town for that matter.
Demolish everything left standing.
Yep.
That’s it – whoever thought it would’ve been a good idea to build a city BELOW SEA LEVEL was smoking something.
And as for the Mayor of New Orleans who is complaining that the US Government “hasn’t done enough” and has committed an “atrocity” needs to be reminded that HE IS the mayor of a city with a NASTY poverty level and that it is HIS responsibility as MAYOR to provide a “WAY OUT” if a tragedy should (did) occur.
Oh, and another thing – quit trying to FIX the levies! Don’t they realize that even fixing the levies is only a temporary fix?
Seriously, demolish the entire city of Gomorrah, I mean New Orleans, and help the 500,000 residents to find jobs and new lives elsewhere. Let the city that was built under water STAY under water! Maybe make it a historic landmark where we can scooba-dive!
Tonight’s date included the 6:30 showing of Wes Craven’s “Red Eye” (PG-13).
I would say that “Red Eye” was an entertaining movie. Definitely a “grab your neighbor’s arm” movie. I actually did find myself clenching onto Jess’ arm during one part of the movie – she let me know quite gently that I was causing her to lose feeling in that arm.
The main scene is inside of an airplane, and more-so in a two-seat section of the plane. Surprisingly, this worked! I thought for sure that it would get boring watching the same two people converse about how one was going to hurt the other – all while sitting comfortably in “coach”. Nope – not boring.
The acting was above-average and the stunts – very realistic, except (SPOILER) for the high-heal kick which actually found the high-heal STUCK in the man’s leg. I’m just not sure that could ever really happen!
All in all it was an enjoyable movie – and once again, as is our new habit, we waited till the last credit before leaving our seats.
Definitely some bad language in the movie, though I’m not sure exactly how much. Obviously there is violence as well, but surprisingly not as much as I had thought there would be.
Warning: do NOT watch this movie if you have heart trouble or if you need to use the bathroom very badly.
