Archives For Ministry

Pastor Mark Wilson said enough about our District Conference on his blog that I don’t feel it’s necessary for me to recap here! If you’re interested, click and read HIS post!

I should add that I had the privilege of delivering our church’s “2-minute report” as is tradition from each church every year during the “2-minute drill” at conference. I got to talk about happenings here at Our Savior’s and enjoyed sharing with my brothers and sisters at conference.

It was an especially great conference having our newly elected General Superintendent with us – Dr. Jo Anne Lyon. God has placed her in leadership of our denomination for such a time as this! These are exciting days!

Pastor Gerry got elected to the District Board this year as did my Hispanic brother, Daniel Muñoz, from up in Milwaukee!

Truly, though, you should read Pastor Mark Wilson’s post on conference!

Before He Speaks

I’m pretty sure my wife, Jess can relate to much of this parody video:

General Conference just ended (we’re talking minutes, not hours-ago!)

I had the privilege of having a back-row “seat” via a live-chat with my buddy Glen Robinson who pastors in West Virginia. He gave me the last few minutes in play-by-play as we discussed some of the significant things that took place at this conference.

Here’s his top-10:

1. First-female GS elected – JoAnn Lyons (President of WHI).
2. All statements on social dancing removed (page 21) from Discipline.
3. Prohibition of merchandising on the Sabbath Day (page 21) was removed and now allows for this matter to be according to “personal conviction” as referenced to in Romans 14:5-6.
4. Prohibition of the motion picture theater (page 22) was removed.
5. All community members have full-voting rights on all issues (except for voting on covenant members). In addition, community members are not allowed to serve in specified leadership positions until they become covenant members.
6. Approved position statement on global poverty.
7. Approved position statement on human trafficking (page 110).
8. Approved position statement on immigration (page 101).
9. Approved position on domestic violence (page 98).
10. USF for global funding passed.

There’s three days of Conference into 10-seconds!

These pictures that came across my Internet surfing were absolutely fascinating:

Hearing that there are still unreached people groups that haven’t had contact with those outside their tribe is one thing, but to see pictures of these tribes shooting arrows at a plane flying over is completely intriguing!

Reminds me of the End of the Spear movie and story of missionary Steve Saint.

More information from these photographs taken just this month is available at Survival International’s site.

A great question was raised on the site where I first saw the pictures. The question was what methods of sharing the Gospel with unreached peoples would be most effective. I’m truly caught off-guard by this question and my mind is trying to wrap around the possibility of talking to someone with ZERO knowledge (not to mention language barrier situations) of God’s gift through Jesus!

What would you do? How would you share Jesus to those with ZERO background of a story most of us have grown up knowing and believing in one form or another?
