There are few things that I hate more than washing my hands in a public restroom only to realize that the door opens to the inside and that I will have to somehow manage to stretch my long or short-sleeve shirt or a paper towel to cover the handle for me to open it. (It’s either that or stand and wait for someone else to come in and quickly exit while the door is still swinging open.)

Today I stumbled on this genius solution to that problem:

Thank you, ChurchCrunch for pointing me in this direction.

A lot has happened in the world over the last 15-months since the tragic Haiti earthquake. Other tragedies have taken place and received a lot of face time on all of the news outlets and as-usual, the story of Haiti has taken ‘second seat’ as we’ve been distracted by other things.

I received an email this morning from World Hope, International. World Hope is the organization many of the faithful stevansheets.com readers supported with me a few short hours following the earthquake back in 2010.

A brief snippet of the email:

Right now we are finishing a school and a medical clinic. We are really wanting to do full reconstruction on another school in Cite Soleil and are working on getting the all the funding we need.

Then I was asked:

Would you have any interest in helping?

I’ve been pondering the ‘ask’ for nearly 24-hours and I’m compelled to ask my faithful readers… are we willing to make a fundraising push for World Hope’s continued efforts in Haiti?

At 4:30PM this afternoon (April 25, 2011), my friends at The Techology Show are scheduled to interview author and pastor Todd Burpo about his book “Heaven Is For Real”. I’m doing everything in my power to be settled in behind my laptop for this LIVE interview that is available for FREE at http://thetechologyshow.com/live

I read the book a few months ago and posted my brief review here.

Here are some of the details of the podcast:

Interview with Todd Burpo, author of New York Times Bestseller Heaven is for Real at 4:15pm EST at www.thetechologyshow.com

A Kindle Edition of the book will be given away to an individual who leaves a question or comment for Rev. Burpo by calling 304-986-5649.
Multiple copies of the book will be given away during the show to listeners in the chatroom.

If you’re going to be tuning in, let me know in the comments! If you’re not, but you have a question that you’d like for ME to ask (if I have the opportunity via the chat room) go ahead and leave that in the comments and I’ll do my best!

It’s no secret, our family loves Steve Spangler. From his incredible science-experiement YouTube videos, his online store (filled with Science Projects, Experiments, Educational Toys & Science Toys), to even his blog, Steve Spangler is a household name around here.

It was just a few weeks ago that I grabbed the video camera and recorded Ella and I doing our first Steve Spangler-inspired experiment, the flying tea bags. Of course we wanted to give a shout-out to Mr. Spangler for encouraging us to experiment with everyday objects, so I posted a comment on his original video letting him know about ours.

Turns out, the “headless man” in the videos is actually named Bradley – and he contacted me initially thanking us for taking time to create our own video and for letting them know about it. It was in that same communication that Bradley asked me if we had a copy of Steve’s book, “Naked Eggs & Flying Potatoes” to which I sheepishly replied “no.” It was around this same time that we filmed our second science video, “Rainbow Milk” and Steve Spangler himself actually commented on our video and my blog post, too! Bradley contacted me a second time and asked for our address!

Today in the mail we had a package from Steve Spangler:

Inside the front-cover is Steve’s message to us:

In case you can’t read it, it says: “Ella & Stevan, Your videos are awesome! Can’t wait to see your TV show. Keep ‘sciencing’. -Steve Spangler

We spent some time after supper looking through the book and making decisions on which experiments we are going to try first!

Thank you, Mr. Spangler for making our day!

Steve’s book is available in both paperback and as a Kindle eBook. Steve Spangler is also on Twitter, you should give him a follow!
