First – a “Happy Mother’s Day” to MY mother, Sally Sheets! Thanks, Mom for all you’ve done to make sure this toe-headed yungin’ grew up to be a man who fears the Lord. Thank you for putting up with my “antics” (read “sermon illustrations”) and for always loving me and being my supreme example of a wife/mother who loves the Lord first with her family right behind!
Second – a “Happy Mother’s Day” to the newest mother I know – my wife! You are the most beautiful wife that I could’ve ever asked for (and yes, I tell her that to her face, not just online!) Thank you for being so tough. For sticking through the hard-stuff and for giving your very life to the cause of raising our daughter! You amaze me.
Third – a “Happy Mother’s Day” to my Mom-in-law whom I’ve grown to love ever since the first time I met her on the first time I picked Jess up for a date! Wow time has flown! You’ve raised two great girls and are an influential part in both of their family’s lives – in a GREAT way! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Jess enjoyed her first Mother’s Day today at church with our daughter Ella with the help of HER mother who drove over from Bluffton this morning to assist in the “first day of church” since Ella’s birth! After church we took Ella on her first meal-out to Applebee’s! She slept the entire time!
After lunch my buddy, Jeremy came over to spend some quality time getting to know our daughter and conversing with us.
Tonight we enjoyed the Survivor finale, though we weren’t excited with the result. Terry should’ve won!
Pray for the Sheets family this week as Daddy goes back to work and Mommy is home with Ella by herself with NO family in town these first few days to help. (This is notably MORE of a stressful situation for Stevan than it is for Jess as was marked by his typical stressful “bowing before the porcelain throne” this evening upon realizing the coming week’s largeness.)
Some photos from today:

Three generations!

Ella on stage with Daddy during morning announcements

Oh dear ones,
It is so good to see everyone looking so good at Ella’s Hours away from) third week old stage!
Jessica, I am thankful that you did so well with the preparations for Sunday activities on this your first Mother’s day! I am thankful that your mother was able to be there with you for it too!
I am so delighted to know that your gift from Stevan (the Lazy Boy recliner/rocker) is working so well for you and Ella! Stevan, you did right!!
PLEASE, P L E A S E give Ella kisses and hugs from Grandma Sally! I am sure missing getting to see, smell, diaper, talk and sing to and hold – her! She is contagious for sure!!!!
Everyone at our church here WISHED that I had brought her back with me as I hoped to do! They all want to see her (and you both of course)!
Stevan I am NOT sure what to do about your emotional stresses reactions, except to say that you will get over it eventually (I pray)!!
With much love,
Grandma Sal
PS. (Gently thinking…if ‘unrelated’ friends (though dear, special, close and precious to Ella, Jessica and you) are referred to as “Grandma” and “Grandpa” to Ella, then do Ella’s sets of TRUE blood related Grandparents still have to remain “Grandpa” and “Grandma” if they would like to choose another title or be ‘given’ another endearing title?) MANY interested (‘related AND unrelated’) and inquiring minds would like to know!!
Oh Stevan, what a beautiful post. I definitely will search for ‘sermon’ outline that you seemed to refer to, but I need to do it later.
Your comments were priceless. The photo of Jess and her Mom was professional quality. Wow! what a perfect shot. The lighting and clarity was sooo perfect. Jess looks absolutely beautiful. Ella appears to be “in vogue” and Jess’s Mom also beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Stev and Jessica,
Could (would) you PLEASE get a close up shot to put on her daily picture log, of her crying … I absolutely LOVE to see her crying … I know you don’t enjoy the crying, crying, crying, and I don’t mean anything I say about loving to see her crying, to mean that I enjoy her tormenting you or causing you to be concerned about why6 she is crying, BUT when I say I love to see her crying, I mean …. she is soooooo adorable when she does most always! I love to see in her beautiful mouth when she is crying and see her tounge widen out and curl up so beautifully on both edges, and she is just BEAUTIFUL when she cries!! I’m not crazy either, it is soooo true! If you could get her cutesy cry that Aunt Sherilyn and I love on video too, that would be soooo great also!
Can you tell we miss her?!!!! We DO!!!
MomMe Sheets
Hey Stevan,
I know you don’t know me but I’m sure Jessica will remember me from way back in the days of Grace Baptist in Bluffton, IN. Just wanted to say hello and a big congradulations on the new addition to y’alls family. If you haven’t heard from Alyssa, she forwarded me y’alls site. Hope everything continues to go well and many kudos to ya. Ella is just absolutely beautiful. May God bless the three of you in the years to come.
Write me back sometime. I’d love to hear what y’all have been up to since I last saw Jessica so, so many years ago.
With thoughts and prayers,
Shawn Hurne
Jess looked so beautiful on mothers day. hope she had a great one.
Thank you Stevan for those kind words about loving your mother-in-law! You are loved much too. We are blessed to have you in our family. You are such a wonderful husband to Jessica and a wonderful daddy to Ella. And you married a beautiful woman (inside and out) whom we think is very special too. And with the addition of our sweet granddaughter Ella, well, the blessings are overflowing.
Love you all three,
Mom/Grandma Garrett
