Jess and I headed to see “War of the Worlds” with Glen Robinson and Jeremy Summers on Thursday while we were in Fairmount for camp. It was a highly anticipated movie for me to see this summer – the advertisements all over the place continued to peak my interest and I could hardly wait to sit and watch this movie.
When I was a kid, Dad bought the original radio broadcast on CD and we listened to it as we traveled across the country on family vacations. I remember building the images of what was happening in my head and dreaming of what it all looked like.
Sitting in the cool theater after a week-long of high-temperature camping was really the highlight of this movie for me.
I was not impressed AT ALL with this Spielberg film. At just over 2-hours long, there is a feeling of “what in the world did I just sit through” after watching.
Acting wise – Tom Cruise is his typical self, however his character isn’t necessarily a part I would have seen him excited about playing. He’s a pretty terrible father in this film.
Special effects are obviously what the money for this film was spent on, however, there wasn’t really anything “new” in this film that was impressive. I’ve seen better aliens on halloween.
For all of the hype this movie had before coming out, I would have expected MUCH more for my $5.50 matinee ticket price. Oh well – now I just have a reason to go rent the original movie version!
