Sunday’s Warsaw Adventure

Dad and Mom Garrett headed to Warsaw this afternoon to treat their Daughter and son-in-law to lunch at Hacienda!

On our way to meet them at Hacienda, we were following a 4×4 pickup truck. The driver was acting pretty weird while turning – weird enough for me to ask Jess if she thought we knew the driver and that maybe he was just trying to get our attention.

We checked the memory banks and no one came up, so I continued to follow cautiously.

When I thought he was turning left onto a side-street, I pulled almost up next to him to pass on the right (a legal pass, I might add) and what-do-ya-know, the joker turns RIGHT and nearly crushes my lovely Neon!

So, being the kind gentleman that I am, I honked my horn to get his attention – or to say, “Hey Mr., you nearly killed us!”

As he turned right, I REALLY could tell something was wrong with this man.

Why?

Because he pulled into the ONCOMING traffic lane and over into the shoulder and OVER the stop sign!

Yep, the dude clobbered the stop sign and found himself in a 4-foot pile of snow.

Humorous to the casual on-looker, I decided against the normal belly-laugh and immediately called 911.

I explained the situation and during my explaination, the pickup driver got dislodged from his snow-pile and headed back into drive-mode as I was chatting with Ms. 911.

I quickly chose to follow and get his license plate for the operator and we got to watch two police cars eventually pull him over and begin to question him.

I was thanked on the phone and told that I would get a return phone call if it was needed.

My cell phone rang during lunch and the Warsaw officer took a phone-statement, thanked me and asked if I would be willing to make a written statement tomorrow morning.

I will be heading to the Warsaw Police station tomorrow morning to make a statement!

Mr. O.W.I. (Operating While Intoxicated) was in their custody and I was thanked for being “that citizen”!

So, I’ve done my civic duty for the day.

We had a good time with you two today-Thank you! Stevan, I just went through this past week’s entries on your website and came upon the great newspaper article about you! How awesome! I’ve copied some off so I can pass around to some of the relatives!
    Love ya, MOM GARRETT

  3. What a hero! Thanks for getting that guy off the road!

  4. i suppose you’ll make the newspaper again…congratulations :)

  5. We had something similar happen! But after Ken hung up with 911, we followed expecting to see police cars converge…and then we left that township…and then we left the next township. After entering the third township, Ken decided that he’d gone far enough, much to my dismay. I was willing to follow this dude…for a while longer. A police car even passed both of us and we tried to flag him down. He drove on by. Oh well. Thanks for your help in keeping our roads safe.

Thank God for keeping you safe!!! Try to keep a low profile. Don’t want that guy hunting you down later. I hope the police are sensitive to that. I pray that Mr. DUI will be thankful for your help, before he hurt someone else, or himself. If you are able to make contact with him, I pray that God would use you to lead him to the Lord.

  7. Member that Pregnant drunk lady at Applebee’s that one time with mom and dad? Dad called on his oh-so-state-of-the-art foot long cellular phone! Member? And he got to go to court and everything?!?! member member? Seriously, how GREAT are siblings?! The only ones who know 95% of your childhood stories!

  8. …And your daddy had to go to court for that incident! Do you remember that we were there to meet the Saunders family? As we were preparing to leave, that expectant female (there alone) stumbled out of Applebee’s, to her vehicle! Right next to my door, she stumbled into her driver side door! With such fright, we watched her get in, and begin to drive away!!!! We tried to follow her, but lost her! That event per our phone call, brought results! Paul was summoned to court to testify of her condition! She was one angry sober female or maybe it was her lawyer that was angry for her! Applebees should have been held responsible!!

Good job Stevan, thank you! I get so upset when those who’ve been dousing are on the road! They are so potentially destructive to so many others who are absolutely innocent! Thanks for doing what was necessary – past the urge to belly laugh!!!

    With love, MomMe
