Merry Christmas (decorating)

11.16.2006 — 8 Comments

Today was my day-off and Jess and I decided it would be the perfect day for decorating for the Christmas season.

I decided to go hi-tech and find a time-lapse program to capture the festivities. I found a program with a 10-day free trial and set up my webcam on top of the bookcase. A 2-hour tree-building was captured in 2-second increments and compressed into 2-minutes. Check it out: (music by Sufjan Stevens)

Ella loves the tree – she seems to get “lost” while watching. When we finished with the decorating we could do before dinner, we took time to pray as a family for the upcoming Season and for all of the time-commitments that come with it and for what often becomes a very stressful season for ministry-families. We’ll be doing our best to keep our heads as we enter this time of year and make sure to keep our hearts turned on the True reason for celebrating!

Jess and I enjoyed dinner at Mad Anthony’s tonight thanks to a timely gift from a church family. Afterwards we rushed through Wal-Mart to get Ella’s stocking, a tree skirt, and the hardware to hang our Moravian Star above our front steps.

Your tree looks beautiful. I am sure Ella is fascinated with all of the lights. Having a granddaughter now in our family, makes looking forward to this holiday season even more special than it already is.

    Love you all three,

  4. Stev,

Great to see the Christmas spirit alive and well in the Sheets home….however, you couldn’t wait just one more week till after Thanksgiving to put the tree up? Poor Thanksgiving is becoming the forgotten step-child holiday. Let’s remember to celebrate all the holidays…:). Anyway, the tree looks great. Hope you have a great Turkey day.

What a smart son we have! The tree is beautiful (as much as we can tell – our picture was fuzzy for some reason – PROBABLY because of dial up)!

I am sure Ella will enjoy napping in front of the tree! I can’t wait for her to be here for Christmas!!! I pray we can decorate soon too! I am all geared up for it!

So proud of you! Can we now have a picture of Ella near the tree, gazing at it?

(Please, please, ask your sister to be careful in her want to give gifts, she has MUCH to handle already in her life!)

Oh, been a long, long time since I sat down to check out your website. Of all things, I chose the day that you had your Christmas tree posted. Wow!! Now…that was just ‘way too cool’!!!! You must be more like the Sheets side of the family. Too smart and intelligent for the Miller side. I love the time lapse idea. Really, I should call all the TV networks (radio as well) and ask them to replace the time lapse video for all the coverage of the “Tom-Kat” events. I love weddings, but this one looses the “umph” for me. How sad it is that our world is so “Hollywood” minded, and to see that so much promotion goes to elevating human beings that seem to think that ignoring God’s Word, and God’s commandments are able to be changed to suit their own way of living.

I love the photo of Ella staring at the tree. It didn’t come through too well on the web. If I could make a request. I would like to use the photo for making up a card. Could you take one with a little bit more light? That is an awesome pose!!! Good idea sister Sally!!!

    Happy holidays, dear SJE family!!!!

  7. I’m so jealous that your tree is up already! It looks beautiful! Richie won’t let me decorate our house or play music (around him anyway) until after Thanksgiving! Luckily, I don’t really have the time right now anyway so that helps me and my impatience! Anyway, I can’t wait to see you, Jess, Ella, and Sher on Turkey Day! Love you guys!

    Jaymie

  8. I’ve had Christmas music on for almost a week and a half already! I love it! Now we just need some snow to make it more authentic.
