Memorial Day

Memorial Day today. A day where most American’s “remember” those who have served our Country by cooking out, getting a day off of work, and sleeping in.

I am most American’s.

Thank you to the many who have served and who currently serve to keep the USA free.

Meet my buddy, Will!

Will

He’s the son of our friends, Bud & Misty Bendorf. This picture was taken yesterday at the wedding reception.

Bud was born on July 24th and Misty was born on January 10th! (Stevan was also born on July 24th and Jessica’s birthday is January 10th!)

Bendorfs

In other baby-news, my cousin Brock and his wife Esther are pregnant with their first child, due January 19th!

Friday I came home from the office, fired up the new (last year) charcoal grill and cooked the Sheets family some wonderful brats.

My “charcoal starting fire” was pretty awesome, so I snapped this photo:

After dinner we relaxed while I watched another recorded episode of Mythbusters. Did you know that it takes over 3,000 helium balloons to lift a 40-lb 4-year old?! Wow.

Saturday was a great day. We woke up to the sound of a gutter being hammered on our apartment building. Jess watched a TON of Food Network shows and at 2, we headed to the church for a wedding.

Ben and Mindy (Cleveland) Sweeny were married here yesterday:

A good time was had by all, and we were invited to the reception @ Stonehenge! Amazing place!

Did you know that the average paintball shot from a rental gun travels at about 290 feet-per-second?

More on that later.

It’s good to be back in town today after a splendid day off yesterday spent in Berne, Indiana with my brothers – Wes and Brandon.

I got into Berne just before 11PM on Wednesday evening and after visiting, shooting each other with our “soft-air” bbguns, playing RISK on PS2, shooting each other a few more times, and chatting through the night, we finally turned the lights out and let the sun take over at about 5AM Thursday morning.

A couple hours of sleep was all we needed to have the energy for a full-day of adventure on Thursday!

We first headed to the lake in Berne where we did little more than jump in, swim around, and even hit a couple dozen golf balls with baseball bats!

After lunch, we headed to Fort Wayne for PAINTBALL! We picked up “Don” in Decatur – he works with Wes at the church as the sound-guy. We had a blast.

Sure, the bruises are all over my body today as I type this, but honestly, the fun had by four guys playing paintball for 3+ hours was worth it!

We finished the evening with dinner at Coney Island and headed back to Berne. I got home just after 11PM last night and mended my wounds.

In all, about 12 paintball-sized bruises cover my body. One REALLY BAD one is on my left arm that is still pretty bloody.

Of course there is a photo-album of the day available, and I also wanted to post some of my favorites:

Jess & I recorded last night’s NAVY NCIS season finale last night and watched it when we returned home from my church-league softball game (we lost).

The season finale of NCIS was VERY exciting, except for the part where they killed-off one of the main characters, “Kate”.

Jess and I were both dumbfounded, wondering what in the world had just happened!

This morning I packed an “overnight” bag for the adventure that awaits in Berne, Indiana. I will head that way once everything here at church is over with this evening.

I got a much-needed haircut at lunch. Feels good to have less hair. I think that will change as I get older…
