Today with Mom Garrett still visiting and a day-visit from Aunt Sher, we celebrated Ella’s 2nd birthday with cake and ice cream and of course singing “Happy Birthday”! The video’s a bit out of focus, but it’s adorable nonetheless!

During the previews for today’s movie, I happened upon the movie they filmed while we lived in Warsaw! It’s called “American Teen“, and you can bet we’ll be watching when it’s out – if not only for the hope to see things we recognize! The movie may be a great (hopefully not scripted) look at the lives of real-teens with real-life-situations. Whatever the case, I thought this film dropped off the radar until I saw the preview today!

Great film!

Went with my buddy Dan Scheel to see this on it’s release day at 1:25PM after a quick lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings.

My first impression of the film is that it just “scratches the surface”. This film opens up a whole hornets nest of discussion for both the scientific community and the church! It has to. There are too many poignant statements made by the scientific community in this film to NOT cause some sort of disruption in the “status quo”. Calling Intelligent Design-believers “idiots” doesn’t offend me, but it causes me to wonder how those in the scientific community who DO believe things that go against the normal thought of science can even share their findings without ridicule. The “system” is closed and not allowing people to share ideas – right or wrong – DOES go against the very freedom our country says that it stands for 100%.

This film is NOT a Christian movie. I’m tired of films like this being marketed as such. That’s my “issue” with the 700 postcards I got telling me about this movie coming to my theater as a pastor and that “I should take my congregation, rent out an entire theater, etc.” Ugh.

Go see this film. Not because “Pastor Stevan” said so, but because it’s challenging the status quo – something Jesus did throughout his ministry here on Earth and something WE, as His Church need to continue to do.

Don’t forget to laugh at Dr. Richard Dawkins at the appropriate time, too! It’ll be obvious.

Tonight Jess had a “girls night out” with some ladies from church and left Ella and Daddy home to take care of ourselves. I quickly called one of the ladies’ husbands and told him that I was a cool daddy and was taking my daughter out for icecream and that he should join us. He accepted the offer!

Before we headed out for icecream we enjoyed our “usual” walk around the house outside and a little trampoline-jumping. When we got to the “Icecream Deli”, I bought Ella a child’s-size scoop of mint chocolate chip and we enjoyed the company of Joe & Allie. Lucky for me Ella wasn’t interested in her scoop of mint chocolate chip-goodness so I got two-scoops!
