I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to have been deaf since birth and then at age 29 to receive a hearing implant and begin to be able to hear for the first time. What I must admit, however, is that watching that exact scenario play out via a YouTube video made me an emotional mess for a few minutes:
I would love to know more of this young woman’s story – if anyone finds anything else out about it, please post the info in the comments!
The only ‘bit’ of information I gathered was that the name of the implant: Esteem by Envoy Medical.

Powerful testimony from a life transformed by the power of Jesus Christ!
From iamsecond.com:
As a child, Hip Hop artist Lecrae’s world was void of good role models. Growing up with a single mom, he would watch rap videos at his grandmother’s house and developed an ability to rap himself. Yet Lecrae wrestled with insignificance, having never met his father and enduring a life of abuse and neglect. He sought to fill this void by surrounding himself with gangsters.
Before long, Lecrae was embroiled in a world filled with drugs, theft, alcohol and gang activity. “I didn’t fit in anywhere. I was just a misfit of a person,” he said.
Little did he know that his view on life would soon be jolted, opening his eyes to the One who valued his life as significant. The One who cared enough to die for him. The One who is behind his music.
UPDATE [2011.10.04]: The winner of the FREE Nevertheless Clothing t-shirt contest is S. Grant! Congratulations, thanks everyone for entering!
Two of my friends, Todd & Cahla Downs, who used to work with me in one of my youth ministry positions have recently launched a brand new venture called “Nevertheless Clothing“. The purpose? I think they say it best (from their about page)…
God gave us creativity, compassion, humor, and a sense of style. Our mission is to use these gifts to bring hope to a seemingly faithless culture. We combine quality products, clean design, with encouraging themes to show love and inspire others. Wear your heart, share your heart, and let love live.
Todd works full time as a graphic designer and Cahla is quite the fashionista – their combined talents and love for the Lord has birthed Nevertheless Clothing and I am so excited for them.
I had a chance to chat with Todd the other evening and got the inside scoop on the business, the desire to give back and permission to give away a shirt here on my blog!
Nevertheless Clothing’s desire to give back in a creative way is what, I think, helps them stand out from the rest of similar startups. Their first “give back” opportunity is something their calling “HANDS 4 HAITI” in which they are using the proceeds from the sale of their first 75-shirts to pay for Todd and his best friend Colin to work in Haiti for a week with a local mission organization ministering to Haitian children! Watch their promo video for a bit more on “HANDS 4 HAITI”:

Ella’s school had early dismissal today, so I took advantage of it and picked her up. When she saw me through the window she quickly attempted to get me to focus my attention on her mouth. As soon as she was released into my care I found out why – her second baby tooth came out during school today!
When we got back to the truck I pushed record on my phone and tried to get her to re-tell me the story:
(sorry about the audio sync issues, I haven’t yet figured out why this happens with my HTC EVO 4G)
I only hope that this time the Tooth Fairy waits until she is truly asleep to make “the exchange”!
“Overthrow Judgment. Liberate Love.”
This is the ‘motto’ for a website movement called “People of the Second Chance”, aka POTC (potsc.com)
Grace is unique – and when we see it in the ‘wild’, I think it is worth noting.
Just this morning I clicked a link to this video featuring a show that I’ve never seen (X-Factor) and an audition from singer Chris Rene that can best be summed up as a real-life grace-in-action instance.
Watch and see if you agree…
