Today was a great day all around at First Wesleyan of Shippensburg! I taught on the topic of “words” this morning with a realization that we are people of “words” and need to be people of The Word – God’s Word. His Word is perfect, our guide, and alive!

I showed a clip from the NPR/Radiolab video, “Words” and also finished the sermon by reading Rob Lacey’s 2-Minute Bible from the Word on the Street paraphrase.

We had guests from Kittany (PA), Newark (DE), and Hagerstown (MD) today at First Wesleyan!

This evening 40+ of us gathered back at the church for a fellowship dinner. We had a wonderful time building relationships with each other! I am so grateful to be a part of a church family that enjoys getting together “just because”! It was refreshing to gather together tonight just for the sake of building relationships with each other!

I uploaded a bunch of photos from tonight’s gathering on Facebook.

One of the things I miss about leading a weekly youth group is a segment that I invented called “Found it on YouTube”.

Since I currently don’t have the outlet of showing my latest favorite “found it on YouTube” videos to a youth group, I will still plan on sharing these viral-wonders via my blog.

First up: “We No Speak Americano ft. Cleary & Harding”.

Haven’t done much research yet, but these two are apparently Irish dancers who have a lot of time on their hands.

Enjoy:

Had a conversation about the song, “Lead Me” by Sanctus Real today with my sister and remembered seeing the video a few days back and wanting to post it on my blog.

Here it is:

Sanctus Real – Lead Me (Official Music Video)

Sunday was wonderful at First Wesleyan of Shippensburg. It was an honor to have my sister visiting from Chicagoland and to have her share with my Sunday school class in the morning was a special treat.

In our morning worship I shared about being Grace-Full and taking a step back and being reminded at how blessed we are because of the Grace of God. We looked at the story of the 10-lepers from Luke 17 and were reminded that we are a lot like those lepers.

We celebrated Grace by concluding our service with Communion which we did in an intimate-setting by serving 8-10 people at a time in the front pew. Celebrating Grace at the Lord’s Table in an intimate setting has always been a preference of mine.

Next Sunday we have planned a carry-in fellowship dinner for the evening and we have 30+ people signed up and planning to attend! I’m looking forward to extended fellowship with these great people!

I’m enjoying discovering the joys of having an Android-running mobile phone. (The HTC EVO) I installed the application, “Key Ring” yesterday, and felt the need to pass on the resource!

Key Ring seeks to slim your wallet or purse by allowing you to scan in the many types of rewards-cards you have cluttering up your wallet or purse and save them digitally in your phone! On my HTC EVO, I was able to successfully take photographs of the few rewards cards I had in my wallet and the software instantly converts the photo into an actual barcode that I can then scan at the establishment.

I signed up for a Key Ring account so that I can also manage my cards on their website and it gives me the option to update store logos and information. For instance, my rewards card for Kings Family Restaurant was not included in the software’s list of recognized establishments. I was still able to scan my card and then on the website I was able to upload a logo and brief information about the restaurant. From my phone I was even able to automatically send the app-creators an e-mail asking to include the store in their software updates.

Since installing the app, I have taken out one reward card from my wallet and taken two off of my keychain!

Here’s a great review of the app in action:
