What would happen if you set up a podium and a bullhorn in the middle of New York City with a small placard that read: “Say Something Nice”? The folks at ImproveEverywhere did just that and filmed (and edited) the results for you and for me.

I love most of the stuff that ImprovEverywhere does and love the idea of changing-up the status-quo of what crowds of people expect to happen as in this example. It is good to see people react to the awkward and different in positive ways like this.

Apart from the two guys who moved the podium into place, there were zero actors in this ImprovEverywhere mission. The reactions of random passersby were varied, apparently. The most frequently-recurring statements were (unsurprisingly) “I love you,” “I love New York,” and “Have a great day”. What was surprising is that apparently only one smart-aleck took a moment to say “something nice”, following the directions to perfection!

Be sure to check out ImprovEverywhere’s full account of this ‘mission’ here.

This method is definitely a 400-level course – and I LOVE it.

I’m VERY tempted to try this when Winter strikes in a few months – I wonder if I’ll have the same success?!
I’ve heard of this method before – creating a magnifying glass from ice – but I’ve never actually seen it in practice until stumbling on this video!

Since the 80’s, the art-form known as “Spoken Word” has continued to gain in popularity. Some think of it as an offshoot of rap or hip-hop, and others as simply another form of poetry. Whatever the definition, I enjoy it.

I stumbled upon this video featuring a unique Gospel presentation by the artist, “Propaganda” that I think is worth sharing:

The Long Beach Free Store is doing something very unique and worth talking about – they’re giving everything away! They are suggesting bringing something unwanted in and exchanging it for something wanted, but it is not required – anyone off the street can come in and take up to two items in exchange for their name and email address.

Would this idea work in your (my?) context?

What obstacles besides, location, staff, items would need to be considered?

Once again, Danny MacaSKILL shows just how much better at riding a bike he is than I am.

Absolutely amazing stuff. The tight-rope cable-ride is the most jaw-dropping, I think.
