Accountability

4.26.2005 — 2 Comments

Last night’s group accountability meeting was terrific.

I haven’t talked about my Monday night ventures in a while – it’s honestly a highlight of my week EVERY week. Usually a group of 5 or 6 guys gathers at Hacienda to go over a list of accountability questions with each other. These questions spark discussion from a group of guys who would normally rather be talking about music, cars, or playing frisbee. It’s been an incredible time.

In a ministry position – I believe it’s MANDATORY for me to have accountability with someone – I believe the LACK of accountability is part of what is wrong with today’s Church and is part of the reason we’re seeing fallen ministers by the handful as of late.

I not only have an accountablity “group” that I meet with every week, but I’m proud to have a “best friend”/accountability partner in Kory Pence and even the accountability that comes with being married to my Jessica. (“my Jessica” makes me sound so poetic, huh?)

I have internet accountability through x3watch and recommend it to EVERYONE who has an internet connection!

Without my “checks and balances” on a regular basis, I’m sure it would be easier to fall to certain temptations and shortcomings. I thank God for those who are willing to ask me questions – search THIS guy and make sure that I am where I need to be!

(and playing frisbee in the cold with a group of guys after accountability group is sure fun, too!)

This morning..

Amazing.

CRASH!

So this morning after our 10AM prayer time – where we as a staff pray for our new pastor who we don’t know yet – I was talking with the ladies in the office and I decided to take a break from standing and lean up against one of the cubicle desks.

Oops.

Everything hit the ground, including me. It was splendid.

Fast forward 2 hours. After lunch @ Grace (where, by the way, I was asked by a young lady if I had a website – turns out she stumbled on stevansheets.com a couple weeks ago – weird!), I was driving back to the office on Winona Ave when the pickup truck in front of me slammed into a small Ford Focus station wagon that was turning in front of her.

CRASH!

It was ugly. I grabbed my cellphone and called 911 – the operator said help was on its way. I jumped out of my car to check things out – how are men wired that way? The lady in the truck was making her way out of her truck safely, but the two elderly women in the Focus were struggling. I walked up to their window, asked the lady’s name in the passenger’s side and she began to scream-cry with chest pain. NOT the reaction I was hoping for. I asked her name again and then asked her if I could pray for her. I prayed for her and she did quiet down a bit. A firetruck, an ambulance or two, and a bunch of guys in yellow coats showed up almost instantly.

I made my police report, met another witness – a Christian man that attends Wawasee Community Bible Church – where my buddy Josh Weiland is the youth pastor. We stood out in the rain waiting to haver our statements taken and eventually went on our merry little ways.

I’m pretty tired now after that ordeal.

I think I’ll go buy some caffeine now.

“Kirkage” couldn’t help me with the headlights today – we’ll have to reschedule next week…

Instead I did some “fun” cleaning around the house today. I’m pretty sure I gave myself a headache by cleaning the bathroom with multiple cleaning solutions… A nap took care of most of the headache.
