Yesterday around Noon three Mukwonago High School Senior guys were in an auto accident that took their lives.

Please join us in praying for the families of these three as well as the entire student body that has been affected by this accident!

I spent a few hours at the school today with students and will no-doubt continue to have conversations throughout the week regarding the events.

I have been reminded again this weekend at just how precious life is – and how we’re not promised even the next minutes of our lives!

Tonight I started a project I have been putting off for quite a while now.

Jess’ grandparents gave her a piece of ‘antique’ furniture – a hutch to store her teapots in eventually. The piece has a lot of character and needs a lot of work to “make the cut” to be brought indoors.

Tonight I performed steps 1-3.

Step 1. Actually look the piece over and realize how big a job I’m taking on.
Step 2. Take off all the hardware – in this case, two drawer handles, four hinges, a miniature door knob, and an ancient hook-lock and eyelet.
Step 3. Begin disassembly.

Step 3 came only after realizing that to ‘make the cut’, this piece of furniture is going to have to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. There are MANY loose pieces, some gaps, a lot of finish-work, and even some reconstruction that will have to take place to make this hutch presentable in our home!

This will be a FUN project for me this Winter! Progress will be published as it happens – stay tuned!

The back of the hutch – each of these 1×4 tongue-and-groove-style backboards is in need of some TLC.

Can anyone (preferably a grandfather of mine whose wife actively browses this blog) give me some advice on this project – even knowing what type of wood I’m dealing with (if such a thing can be told through viewing only a simple photo)?

Home.

We’re home.
Not only are we grateful to be here, but we’re grateful to know that this IS home!

I’m updating from my Dad’s office computer this morning via the wonderful world of dial-up Internet.

We arrived safe and sound in PA on Wednesday morning around 6AM! It was a great trip through the night and Ella did wonderful! We’ll enjoy Thanksgiving festivities here today and another full day of enjoying family tomorrow, too! We’ll get back on the road tomorrow night and drive through the night to get back into Indiana by Saturday morning!

What a crazy week this has already been!

Ella loves being in Pennsylvania. Mom has Grandma Miller’s old piano now here at home and Ella has been “playing” on it quite frequently. She even sings while playing! It’s adorable!

Regular updates will continue when we get back to ‘civilization’!

On Saturday, Jess is helping lead worship at an all-women event at our church.l That afternoon, this Sheets-family will embark on a 1500+ mile “vacation” that will take us from Mukwonago to Bluffton, IN and then to Middleburg, PA and then back to Mukwonago in a matter of 7-days. This will be our first “vacation” since arriving here in Mukwonago 5-months ago. We’ll be spending a few-days with each side of the family – not nearly enough time for either side to “get their fill” of their Granddaughter, but we’re grateful for the opportunity!
