Trunk N Treat

10.29.2008 — 2 Comments

Tonight was Armbrust Wesleyan’s annual Trunk N Treat outreach event. I hadn’t participated in a Trunk N Treat event since being on staff in Warsaw, Indiana and was quite curious as to what to expect here at Armbrust.

I was impressed.

More than 230 people from the community showed up tonight for a full cook-out meal, a couple dozen vehicles with trunks full of sugar-y goodness, and even a bonfire!

What’s more is that seeds were planted through this event that allowed some in the community to see a church willing to reach out to them without strings attached! I’m proud of our church family and leadership for making this event happen!

Some of my favorite pics from the night:

I should add that it snowed most of today and was in the mid-30’s all day. I thought for sure that the weather would cause a low turnout tonight on both those with candy in their trunks and those willing to come out for the event. I’m glad I was wrong!

MTV just launched MTVmusic.com – a “hulu-like” site for music videos!

It’s simple, clean, and useful!

A quick-search brought me to this Mat Kearney video that I hadn’t seen yet (I live under a rock without cable).

The launch of this site and knowing about Hulu already once again confirms our decision to ONLY have Internet at the house and not Internet & Cable.

PA Update

It’s Sunday morning, our third Sunday morning since arriving in Pennsylvania.

So much has taken place over the last two weeks that it’s nearly impossible to recap sufficiently.

My Senior Pastor and a team from our church and our Western PA district left early last week for South Africa and have arrived there safely for the next two weeks.

I am still working hard to get to know this church, this position, these people, and of course the area.

Jess is working desperately each day to continue to make our house a home. Ella has settled in nicely to her new house and absolutely loves going to bed on her “Tinker Bell bed” each night.

I have had my first “area youth network” lunch and am excited about having connections in the area to brainstorm and minister with.

I preach on Sunday morning next week. I am excited about the opportunity to address our new home church and allow them to get to know me a bit more by the way I bring God’s Word to them.

Mondays are still my day-off each week and I am already coveting that day-away to spend quality hours with my girls in our home. I look forward to the days when we can use the day to get-away and do some exploring!

They say that snow is a possibility as early as tomorrow! That’s almost music to my ears!

I’m getting antsy to get my hunting license, get into the woods and shoot something fury. I guess that’s normal when you’re surrounded by similar-minded fellows and woods to make that a sooner-than-later possibility!

God is teaching me to rely on Him amidst change and discomfort like I haven’t experienced in some-time. This transition has only been possible with the help of our Heavenly Father and through a loving church family, friends and family!

We get Internet hooked up at the house sometime tomorrow!

OOVOO.com

I read on Twitter today about a new video-conference software called “ooVoo” and decided to check it out.

I had a great little video-chat this afternoon with my buddy Eric Ebbinghaus and we were both impressed with the ease of use and quality of chat we were able to have. We even used our free 5-minutes of “land-line-talk-time” to call our wives from within the program and include them in on the fun for a few minutes!

I see ooVoo seriously aiding me in staying in contact with not only friends from across the country, but also contacts here in PA that I may need to meet with on occasion and save a trip by vehicle!

The software allows up-to 6 simultaneous parties to participate in video/audio chat similar to that of Mac’s iChat and other familiar platforms. The bonus is a cross-platform design that allowed me to chat today with Eric, an avid Mac-user from my PC laptop!

If you’re curious, check out my link below and if you find me online and I’m available, give me a ring to try it for yourself!

What’s with this guy throwing a hit?!

Thanks to Andy Jellison for this great clip!
