Socialspark_smallI signed up for SocialSpark.com today. SocialSpark gives me the occasional opportunity to review a product/service/website and post about it on my blog and receive payment for telling blog readers about it.

As we transition to our new ministry in Shippensburg, I have been seeking opportunities such as this to help supplement the income provided by the church.

SocialSpark is one of many “sponsored post”-type websites, but seems to be the most legit. Their “Code of Ethics” gives some information that those considering doing the same might want to read and review.

Signing up was a breeze. I simply signed up for an account and then had to “prove” that I was the owner of stevansheets.com by posting a code that SocialSpark gave me to my website. Being able to post this link proved that I am in-fact the administrator of the site.

I now will receive offers via e-mail of post-opportunities for me to review and then post about here on stevansheets.com. The process couldn’t be more simple. I’m even being paid for this post about my sign-up process. I have a 200-word minimum requirement and have exceeded that now.

Our family’s obsession with Pomplamoose

Ever since I discovered Pomplamoose on YouTube a few months ago, our family has had a sort of fascination with them. We describe them to friends and family as our “internet music obsession”. I even downloaded a collection of their YouTube videos and made a DVD that finds its way onto the TV and surround sound quite often these days. The draw? Conservative, unique talent.

Pomplamoose is made up of Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte – California-based boyfriend-girlfriend. They have joined musical-forces and produce what they call, “VideoSongs” – a uniquely produced video of their original works as well as their cover-songs that must be seen/heard in order to be understood.

Case in point: “Telephone” (yes, a cover of a Lady Gaga song)>>

Typical vs. Biblical

Read a great article by Eric Geiger this morning that has some great reminders about local church ministry. He says:

Often I hear deep lamenting from pastors and staff teams about the lack of volunteer engagement in their churches. And often I have discovered that the problem is not with the people but a faulty ministry culture that fosters low levels of volunteerism and perpetuates an unhealthy dependence on clergy. The typical approach to ministry in most churches stands in stark contrast to the biblical approach given to us clearly by God.

I think those of us in ministry need to not only be aware of the astounding statistics, but apply them to our areas of ministry and share the information with those around us! Youth pastors: this third video should be shown at your next parents meeting!
