Archives For January 2006

Big news in Bartlesville, OK. Extreme Home Makeover is in town this week and Oklahoma Wesleyan University is center stage. OKWU donated FIVE full-ride scholarships! They’re featured on the donor-page on the home builder’s website: extremesimmons.com

The family they are helping is a pastor’s family. The pastor passed away back in April and left his wife and 10 children (5 still at home) pretty much homeless. They gathered enough money to purchase a plot of land and two trailers. Extreme Home Makeover is obviously going to change their lives!

Some great OKWU information is here. As well as a daily journal from their perspective!

A news article from an Oklahoma news station is here.

Kory also forwarded the memo from Dr. Everett Piper – OKWU’s president – that he sent to all the faculty. That is in .pdf format and can be downloaded here (19k).

Tuesday, January 24th marked the release of P.O.D.’s latest album release, “Testify”. I purchased this album on iTunes Tuesday morning and have been listening to it everyday on the car CD player as well as the computer. 13-tracks make the album “worth its weight”, including two colaborative efforts from another favorite of mine – Matisyahu! The iTunes version gave me the music video for “Goodbye For Now” which is getting much air-play on MTV and the behind-the-scenes “making of” video. Also, a 51-minute “artist commentary” makes its way onto the iTunes purchase. I listened once to the commentary and got some interesting insight into the making of the album as well as where P.O.D. finds themselves on their spiritual journey. The commentary is an honest inside-look into who P.O.D. is and does well to show P.O.D.’s human-ness.

Favorite track: #4 “Goodbye For Now”

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Notably the “World’s Greatest Band”, U2 has already rocked my living room on numerous occasions via this little wonder.

Not able to fork over a couple hundred bucks to see them in person, this DVD is my “next-best-thing” in enjoying the sights and sounds of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen, Jr.

The DVD is absolutely my favorite concert DVD I’ve ever purchased and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that it’s the first U2 concert DVD I’ve ever been able to purchase for myself!

Like U2? You’ll love this disc. Hate U2? You’ll love this disc.

Jess let me buy the cheap, Wal-Mart surround-sound system today. Needless to say, U2’s Chicago Vertigo live DVD kept us company during dinner! It’s incredible. (the surround-sound system & the DVD!)

Got an e-mail from a former suite-mate in college, Brad Wolf, today. He’s now an official blogger.

Tomorrow Jess and I head to Ft. Wayne for the first-ever Indiana North District Youth Pastors & Wives renewal weekend! We’re staying in the downtown Holiday Inn and will enjoy the company of 13 other couples as well as the teaching of Rev. Les & Kathy Kephart. We’re really looking forward to this weekend and a chance to sit under some good ministry-couple’s-focused teaching!

Of course you can look forward to pictures of the weekend adventure when we return Saturday night.

So, over the last two days I’ve felt our baby kick through it’s momma’s tummy NUMEROUS times.

Can I just admit that this is probably the coolest thing EVER!?!

I usually “run for the tummy” when Jess starts making “the baby is kicking me” noises and try and find the best spot to feel these “love kicks”!

It’s absolutely amazing!

Jess didn’t have school today – snow delay and then cancelation. With the Warsaw cancelation, we didn’t have church tonight either – so we’ve already enjoyed lunch and dinner together and now we’re going to settle in for “Flight Plan” on DVD.
