Archives For June 2005

Today’s sermon was entitled “Meant to Live” – I’m sticking with the sermon-titles-from-Switchfoot-songs theme these days. This one’s a bit longer than two weeks ago, but I’d still encourage you to download and take a listen! Listen to it in the background this week – and for goodness sakes – more than FIFTY of you downloaded the sermon 2-weeks ago, and I heard from less than 10% of you! PLEASE let ‘ol Stev know that you listened!

It’s based on the story of Zacchaeus found in Luke 19:1-10.

We were “Meant to Live” for more than the “status quo” Christian life – as exhibited in the life of Zach.
Look at his: SALVATION EXPERIENCE, WORSHIP EXPERIENCE, and EVANGELISM EXPERIENCE!

I’ve also included the PowerPoint sermon outline with nifty Anniversary photo album that I intro’d the message with!

Apparently today is a Mythbuster’s marathon on Discovery.

Jess and I have watched at least 3-full episodes this afternoon.

My buddy Craig is coming over tonight for some fellowship and hopefully Brad Stine DVD watching. (I also think there’s going to be some chips & dip action from the kitchen!

Pray for me tomorrow as I bring the message in both services at Warsaw Wesleyan. (9:15 and 10:45)

It’s also our 1-year Anniversary!

Jess and I had a marvelous time with Wes and Ellen Pate tonight @ the Olive Garden in Ft. Wayne.

We enjoyed a marvelous dinner and conversation with the occasional spontaneous laughter.

Following dinner we went to Glenbrook Mall to do a little investigation about my wedding band and what really was covered by the insurance I paid for when I purchased the over-priced jewelry.

Turns out that when that ring fell into the lake, so did the $300+ we spent on it.

I got sick to my stomach, instantly. I hadn’t really “felt” the brunt of what it was to lose my ring because in the back of my head I thought, “surely that insurance I bought for the ring covers losing it while riding a jetski…”

Not the case. Turns out that I would have had to have BROKEN the ring to have it replaced. Tell me how to BREAK a gold ring that is worn on your finger? Sure, maybe BREAK the ring while chopping off your finger, but am I going to seriously be worried about a wedding band when I cut my finger off? No.

Moral of the story: don’t pay for insurance on a wedding band!

Next up was “Seekers” – a coffee house in Ft. Wayne that’s only been open for about 3-months. Wes and Ellen had been there and we enjoyed a great long visit on some very comfortable couches.

Wes and Ellen pack up and move on Tuesday next week for their new lives in Tuscaloosa, AL. This was our last visit with them before they move some 10-hours away from us. Ouch.

They will be missed, but not forgotten.

Jess and I leave in a few minutes to have dinner in Ft. Wayne with our friends: Wes & Ellen Pate. They will be leaving next week for Tuscaloosa, Alabama – their new home and ministry opportunity.

This is also our Anniversary dinner – can you believe we’ve been married for a year on Sunday!

Sherilyn – thanks for the anniversary gifts! The Bosnian-Chocolate was a liquid mess, but everything else was intact!

ONE.
