Archives For May 2005

Did you know that the average paintball shot from a rental gun travels at about 290 feet-per-second?

More on that later.

It’s good to be back in town today after a splendid day off yesterday spent in Berne, Indiana with my brothers – Wes and Brandon.

I got into Berne just before 11PM on Wednesday evening and after visiting, shooting each other with our “soft-air” bbguns, playing RISK on PS2, shooting each other a few more times, and chatting through the night, we finally turned the lights out and let the sun take over at about 5AM Thursday morning.

A couple hours of sleep was all we needed to have the energy for a full-day of adventure on Thursday!

We first headed to the lake in Berne where we did little more than jump in, swim around, and even hit a couple dozen golf balls with baseball bats!

After lunch, we headed to Fort Wayne for PAINTBALL! We picked up “Don” in Decatur – he works with Wes at the church as the sound-guy. We had a blast.

Sure, the bruises are all over my body today as I type this, but honestly, the fun had by four guys playing paintball for 3+ hours was worth it!

We finished the evening with dinner at Coney Island and headed back to Berne. I got home just after 11PM last night and mended my wounds.

In all, about 12 paintball-sized bruises cover my body. One REALLY BAD one is on my left arm that is still pretty bloody.

Of course there is a photo-album of the day available, and I also wanted to post some of my favorites:

Jess & I recorded last night’s NAVY NCIS season finale last night and watched it when we returned home from my church-league softball game (we lost).

The season finale of NCIS was VERY exciting, except for the part where they killed-off one of the main characters, “Kate”.

Jess and I were both dumbfounded, wondering what in the world had just happened!

This morning I packed an “overnight” bag for the adventure that awaits in Berne, Indiana. I will head that way once everything here at church is over with this evening.

I got a much-needed haircut at lunch. Feels good to have less hair. I think that will change as I get older…

End of The Day

So it’s the end of the day and I felt like posting once more before leaving my office this afternoon.

It’s been a busy day with staff meeting, going to lunch with the office staff, and numerous other “ministry” items that came up today.

I began work today on the new warsawwesleyan.com – the old site is outdated, dark, and just plain boring. Developing a new site has been on my to-do list for about 6-months now, but most of you can understand the reasons behind NOT having worked on this project…

To begin working on the site, I did a “building photo shoot” this afternoon while the day was its brightest. Nothing that I’m proud enough to post, so I think I’ll have to wait for a better day for “THE” shot for the main page.

Seen any REALLY good church websites that I can ‘borrow’ from? Comment with their link!

As of 1:38PM on Tuesday afternoon, FORTY-FOUR (44) of you have downloaded the sermon I uploaded on Sunday!

That’s like my own little web-congregation!

I had no idea so many would download a sermon mp3 from here, I will think about uploading my sermons from now on!

Yesterday (Monday)

Last night Jess and I had the privelege of having dinner at Applebee’s with Jim & Amy Taylor and their baby girl, Kaylee. It was good to visit with them over dinner. Jim is an Admissions Counselor at IWU and Jess and I both went to school with Amy.

After supper, I headed to Monday Night Accountability with “the boys”. We enjoyed some good conversation and some Hacienda chips. After every week of accountability, we try and make it a habit to walk to the upper parking lot and play frisbee or something. This week, Matt Hunter brought his radio-controlled H2, and we had a blast! Each of us ran a course that Knepp drew out for us and we had time-trials.

Time Trials:
ROUND I
Knepp – 35.35
Helfrich – 3:15.97
Sheets – 52.06
VanKirk – 31.62
Hunter – 36

ROUND II
Knepp – 30.87
Helfrich – 1:11.51
Sheets – 27.17
VanKirk – 36.53
Hunter – 27.22

If you’ll notice closely, you’ll see a certain dot-com owner/operator with the time of 27.17 seconds – the quickest of any time during the nite!

After drag-racing the H2, someone thought of trying to get Kirkage’s Yukon up on top of a landscape rock that was in the lawn of Hacienda. The picture shows how things COULD’VE gone if the manager didn’t come running out asking us NOT to try such a thing. We had a good conversation with him and found out that there are some people who tear up their lawn and he wanted to make sure it wasn’t us. We’ll have to find another rock at another place.
