Archives For April 2005

Tonight we had a great service.

Phil Stuller, son of our daycare/preschool director – MaryAnn, was here tonight to update us on his mission trip to Sri Lanka – soon after the tsunami hit.

I interviewed him during our service tonight, and we ended the service with prayer for Phil and his fiance – Stephanie.

Our church sponsored Phil for this trip, so it was so good to see how, in fact, OUR CHURCH ministered in Sri Lanka!

This morning’s speaker was Dr. Mark Smith from IWU – he and his family were a blast getting to know. They had an 8-month adopted son from Guatemala that I had the pleasure of sitting beside during our Boat House lunch.

The latest movie that Jess and I have thoroughly enjoyed is “Finding Neverland” (PG). We rented this from the local Blockbuster – only after looking for it numerous times, finding them completely “out” of this DVD.

We watched this on a Saturday night and neither of us wanted to get up from the movie. We watched the DVDs “extras” and enjoyed those, too!

Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are an incredible duo in this film, and the cinematography makes this movie VERY exciting and also makes me want to watch it again to see what all I probably missed the first time!

The child-actors throughout this movie make this an enjoyable experience. Jess and I both are intrigued by this story of the man who wrote Peter Pan!

Check out the new Photo Galleries on the left – the first one is of the Sheets and Pates visit to Ft. Wayne.

With no one showing for theVINE tonight, Jess and I took each other to Applebee’s for dinner.

Sure it hurts when you plan a service and no one shows up for it – this is actually the first time that has ever happened to me, but having a wife who supports me sure helps to ease the “hurt”. I’ll blame the lack of people on Spring Break.

Focusing on prayer tonight at theVINE.

Psalm 51 first – a chance to ask God to cleanse us personally, then time spent praying for our church body.

It will be an intimate time of renewal. [8:48PM] Apparently Jess and I were the only ones who needed tonight – we were the only two VINErs tonight.

After seeing enough “hype” about this new 4th Avenue Jones band and their new album, I decided that a youth pastor who prides himself in keeping up with the latest in Christ-centered music should get this album.

I picked it up yesterday – on my day off.

I thought it was going to be yet another hip-hop crew trying their best to produce an album.

Released on Gotee Records, I had hope that this would be a high-quality record.

It isn’t the typical “rap” album that I expected. What I heard was the Christ-centered version of the Black Eyed Peas!

I don’t know much about the group – except that they have apparently been around for a number of years, just in the “underground” scene.

I found their first video from this new album here. It’s pretty interesting, too.

4th Avenue Jones official website: here. I have a feeling we’ll all be hearing more and more about this group in the weeks to come!
