So there I am sitting in a VERY liturgical Community Good Friday service this afternoon thinking about how dead “religion” is and I couldn’t help but want to jump up and exclaim how exciting this day could be because of what happens in two days!
We sang atleast three songs that I’ve never heard in my life. Hymns #289, #297, and #292 I think. Good lyrics, terrible mood-setters. Couldn’t have been more depressing.
I’m all for REMEMBERING what took place on “Good Friday”, but why the negative-emphasis?
Paul in Philippians 3:13: “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (TNIV)
It’s that GOOD NEWS that I want to focus on – this “race” we’re in – and this “prize” we are racing to win.
Where’s your focus Church?
