MOVIE REVIEW: “Are We There Yet”

Apparently, this is Ice Cube’s attempt at making a family-oriented film. The “right” elements are there: cute kids, modern-day family situation (single mom, bachelor looking for love), but the “wrong” elements are there too – potty-mouthed rap-star turned actor, inappropriately-dressed mother, disrespectful children, etc.

The movie was partially entertaining. To see a brand-new Lincoln Navigator torn to shreds by the end of the movie was my favorite part.

Ice Cube seemed to be “out of his element” in this movie. The cute kids are cute, but their acting careers are more-than-likely going to stop after this film.

I can’t get over the fact that this film is being advertised as a family-friendly film! If I had children with me in the audience of this film seeing how “on screen” children treat their mother and her friends, we would’ve been gone. If my children would have heard a fowl-mouthed Ice Cube talk like he did in front of the children, we would’ve been gone.

Apparently, “getting away from home” outweighed “watching a stupid movie” for the numerous parents that were sitting amongst us that evening.

If you still want to see this movie – don’t waste the $7 to see it in a theater – rent it in a few months so that you too aren’t sitting in a theater crying, “Are We DONE Yet?”.
