MOVIE REVIEW: Becoming Jane (PG)

jane.jpgTonight I did what any good husband should do – I took my wife on a date that wasn’t me-centered. We ate at Applebee’s, went to the Majestic Theater and then to Starbucks.

We didn’t JUST go to the Majestic, we went and saw a real-life chick-flick, “Becoming Jane”.

I knew I was in “trouble” the minute I realized that I would be the only male in the theater who didn’t actually grow up in the same era as Miss Austen. Seriously.

I made it through the movie – which was a typical movie that my wife loves: weird English accents, ballroom gowns, dancing, crying, girls having their hearts trampled on by “rebels”, etc.

After watching the movie I have NO desire to read a biography on Miss Austen, but I can’t help but wonder how much of the movie’s plot was true-to-life.

During my movie-watching I had an epiphany of sorts that made me realize that sacrificing two precious hours of sanity to sit through a chick-flick like “Becoming Jane” is well worth it if it makes my wife happy.

  2. How good of you! I am sure your wife was very thankful! Not to mention the fact that you have just raised the bar for all those manly men husbands that would not give up two hours to make their wives happy watching a sappy chick-flick!

  3. PS: You need to seriously do some updating on your daughters web page!

  7. Hi, Stevan, I am very impressed you took your wife to see this wonderful movie. I really feel you should read Jane Austen’s books! :) I watched Pride & Prejudice (2005 version) last night with my husband. I think he secretly enjoyed it. Anyway, it’s great to know there are a few good men out there! :)
