Archives For August 2006

This afternoon I mowed the yard.

I mow the yard with an old-school hand-me-down mower with no guards – just pure grass-clippings shooting out like a salad-shooter as I walk along our small yard.

As I mowed today, I came upon a praying mantis.

Usually this mantis would’ve been sent through the lawn mower without a thought, but today this mantis was spared and I enjoyed watching him walk along the yard to safety.

Just thought you’d like to hear about this change in me!

In other news…

Ella & Jess are sick. :(

I took them both to the doctor today. Ella was given some medicine and thankfully Jess’ strep-test came back negative. We also found out that Ella is 15-pounds, 14-ounces today! Even though she is sick, she continues to be delightful and is doing her best to stay “happy”!

Over 15-hours of work went into these 3-minutes and 11-seconds. Spread this link like wildfire. I’m really proud of how this short film turned out!

I know you’ll enjoy.

Some quick notes on the movie:

Filmed on three separate days.

Each shot is actual – no “special effects”, though if I had the technology, I probably would’ve used it.

We probably only used a total of 6-different Mt. Dew cans through the whole process.

We weighed one can down with about 20 rubber erasers to give it some weight for some of the long-distance shots. All other cans were empty.

This video premiered tonight at theBOX Road Trip (our final one) and was met with a thunderous applause at the close!

Josh and Gene are SO PROUD of this film!

Again – pass it along to anyone who’s willing to watch!

Nissan Versa

This afternoon, I took Jess & Ella to the Nissan dealership where we scoped out the ’07 Versa.

Boasting “best room” in its class, the Versa did surprise us by being a “small” car with a “lot” of room. Too bad the back end wasn’t extended another 2-3 feet for baby-stuff! We drove the “tricked out” black version with everything – including the new Nissan CVT transmission – which was pretty interesting to drive, but I’m already not a fan.

In all, it was a great test-drive, but it’s out of our range being a new-car and all, and the room-issue kept us from seeking it any further.

We’re keeping our eyes peeled for a 2-3 year-old minivan or wagon – anyone got any leads?

Tonight I joined 9 other guys for a Fantasy Football Live Draft in Ft. Wayne.

After 16-rounds of draft picks, I am pleased with how team “Cotton Sheets” is shaping up for a year of football!

Thankfully, being my first year, I had plenty of help from the guys and as far as I know I didn’t make any terrible mistakes. So far, I am playing on two different leagues – each with its own pro’s and con’s. We’ll see how team “Cotton Sheets” does this season and I’ll be sure to update the “wondering world” as to my weekly status!

Breakfast this morning as a family included two teens – Josh and Gene. Good times at Maria’s House of Pancakes!

After a full breakfast, we began a day’s worth of movie-making. We finished the final edit around 7PM tonight and are debuting “Recycled” on Wednesday at our final BOX Road Trip! When it’s done being debuted, I’ll post it online to show off.

While I was away all day, Jess had some quality time with our amazing daughter – who, by the way, slept in HER OWN ROOM last night for the first time ever! What a momentous occasion!

Jess was able to find time to do a little Ella-recording this afternoon, too, and I was so proud at what I found on the camera tonight I just had to post it!

She also took a bunch of pictures that would be a pitty if I didn’t share with all of you:
