Google Voice – why I signed up.

As Google continues to slowly, but surely “take over the world” I continue to find satisfaction in allowing them control of much of my e-life. I am a strictly Gmail-only e-mail guy, I use my Google-calendar for ALL of my appointments, I have Google-apps installed for my domain names, etc.

Google Voice, however is their next-step in world-domination and I signed up as a beta-tester a few years ago and hadn’t ever really been sold-out until just this week.

This week I changed my old Google Voice number from the Wisconsin area code number I originally signed up for to a Shippensburg-area area code. Now I can begin giving out my “new number” to whomever needs it and any calls/texts to that number are directly (and instantly) routed to my cell phone. When we move and get settled and eventually change our cell phone numbers, I won’t have to worry about giving out the new-new number – I just have to change my Google Voice settings to tell it to send calls to my new cell number! I can also route any calls to my Google Voice number directly to any other land-line! So now my Google Voice number is the ONLY number anyone needs to know in order to get in touch with me! Also – any voicemails left to my Google Voice number are automagically transcribed and instantly txted and e-mailed to me! I can also listen to the audio of the voicemail on my computer if I choose!
