For about a month, Jess has been mentioning things like “I think something is wrong with our fridge.” and “Did you hear that? That’s the fridge.” To which I usually respond with silence and the thought-process of “I hope it’s not the fridge, I don’t want to deal with it.”
Well, it’s official. Our fridge is dead. Not cold, not cool, just a box with spoiled food in it.
Nice.
We’ve never owned a fridge – we’ve only lived in parsonages and rentals where the fridge has already been provided. Same is true here in our parsonage, so we’re waiting to see exactly what happens…
Sadly our renter’s insurance deductible is $500 and unlike you stevansheets.com readers, we don’t keep Lobster Tail in our freezers, so we’ve gotta replace our fridge-contents on our own.
Jess is now going through the fridge item-by-item and coming up with a list of “the replacements”.
Can’t wait for that shopping trip!
Anyone know of a great deal on a fridge I can tell our church trustees about?
Hash. Just tell Jess to make hash. Toss all that slightly spoiled food into one large pot … add potatoes and a huge onion … and cook for 45 minutes. Oh, add a bottle of worchester sauce. And a bottle of Texas Pete. Hash. I’ll take some on Thursday …
oh yeah! We have a whirlpool (http://www.whirlpool.com/catalog/product.jsp?src=REFRIGERATORS&cat=96&prod=1280) and I love it!! It fits all those extra good deals, you can fit everything you need and a bit more when leftover hit or a turkey that needs to find a home until it can be made into leftovers!
try a sears dent and ding store if you have one in your area. They have awesome nearly perfect items for cheap.
Just make sure you don’t get the typical response of we can fix old fridge that is broken. You need a new one so make sure you get a new one!

Look at you Mr. “I live in a parsonage and never have had to replace anything”. Lucky.
Wait until you get to own your own home and have all your money get sucked into the vortex that is home repair :)
We’ve lived in our house for a little over two years and don’t get me wrong we do love our home. Besides painting/tearing down wallpaper we have replaced a roof, a concrete driveway, carpet, and a sidewalk.
Next we need to restore all the hardwood floors, replace the carpet again (thank you Lilly), need 6 new windows and don’t even get me started on the kitchen ;). We need a new washer and oh yeah we need to update wiring (ever heard of Knob and Tube? How about Fuses? Its unlikely.
All of this in a sinking housing market where who knows what kind of price we will be able to sell it at someday.
Have the church buy a Maytag. Those repairmen always seem to be looking for something to do.
