Dude, I’m getting (another) Dell!

So today’s attempt at clearing off some junk from my hard drive proved fruitless. Even after removing numerous albums and “priceless” video clips, I’ve still only managed to free up a total of 3gigs on my tiny 120gb hard drive on my current Dell Inspiron E1505 that I got back in October, 2006!

So tonight we spent our tax return on my new Dell. The decision to buy tonight (instead of a month ago when we first knew what our return would be) came after today’s hard drive filling-up situation. That happens every few weeks and I manage to keep off-loading pics and videos to an external 350gb hard drive that I filled up about 2 months ago!

The new Dell is an Inspiron 15 Laptop. For you techies, here are the specs:

New Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
Current Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.00GHz/667MHz)

Current RAM: 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 533MHZ

New display: 15.6 inch WLED Display (1366×768)
Current display: 15.4 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen WXGA

New Video Card: 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330
Current Video Card: 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory

New Hard Drive: 500GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Current Hard Drive: 120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)

New OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 32 Bit
Current OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 32 Bit

New Wireless Card: Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11 Wireless-N Mini Card
Current Wireless Card: Intel WiFi 802.11g Wireless Card

New CDROM: 8X CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
Current CDROM: 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability

New Webcam: Integrated 1.3 MP Webcam
Current Webcam: a piece of junk external one!

I’m also going to upgrade to the newest Office suite (not through Dell).

Can’t wait to get this bad-boy!

Current arrive date is June 6th, but I’ve always been impressed with an earlier ship-date than what they originally say.

So, what do you think?

  1. AWESOME! I have been eying the more basic model Dell inspiron 1500 for some time now. I will eventually get one… my 4 year old desktop little Dell 80GB hard drive is about 80% full! But for now, it gets done what has to be done… some of the time atleast.

Anyway, congrats on the new Dell!

You need one of those 1 tera Externals!

  2. DUDE….SWEET….DUDE….SWEET

  3. Dude – you’re going to wish you bought a Mac. Seriously – it’s a decent computer – should last you another 2 years before you have to replace it!

  4. Numerous Facebook comments tell me that I’ll regret the Dell wishing for a Mac and so does my friend John’s comment above.

    About that:
A refurbed MacBook Pro would’ve run me $1999 (before taxes & shipping) with NO software switching over from my current platform.

The new Dell was about $800 less than that AND all of my current software will transfer over (Photoshop, Illustrator, Vegas Studio, etc.)

In the short-term, buying another Windows-PC has saved me more-than $2000!

Photoshop and Illustrator are part of my every week as a pastor who enjoys making things look good.

    That is all. :)

  5. Oh, AND the MacBook would’ve only had 2gb of RAM (I’m getting 4gb) and only had a 350gb HD (I’m getting 500gb).

Uh, what do you do with the one you currently use? Your Dad could use one, can you allow him first quote if you sell it?
